Coil - Backwards [Cold Spring]

It can be hard to know where to start with Coil, but Backwards is as good a place as any if you ask me. Although it's ultimately a collection of demos and studio recordings from the mid-1990's theres a rawness to this that suits the whole Coil thing absolutely perfectly. The more polished reissue and The New Backwards just aren't the same in my view. The recordings on this were intended to bridge the void between the druggy escapism of Loves Secret Domain and the Musick To Play In The Dark albums, and they do so well, combining to create an almost-perfect run of three LPs with powerful results.
