The Caretaker - Patience (After Sebald) [History Always Favours The Winners]

Timely reissue of The Caretaker's soundtrack to the Grant Gee film Patience (After Sebald).

Tracing the late writers walk around the East Anglian countryside (documented in his book The Rings of Saturn - an all-time In Strict Tempo favourite) Patience (After Sebald) featured stunning, melancholy shots of the desolate landscape whilst passages from the book were narrated by Jonathan Pryce. With such a bleak canvas to work with, The Caretaker was the perfect choice to soundtrack it, working with a sample of Franz Schubert's 1927 piece Winterreise, looping, manipulating and decaying the source audio in a manner that he would repeat with viral success for his epic Everywhere At The End of Time series of albums.

Fans of The Caretaker will find much to love here, as will fans of modern composition, classical and just good music in general. It's not as challenging a listen as his other works, but still evokes a sense of memory that not only runs through Sebald's writing, but The Caretakers later albums. Watch the film, listen to the soundtrack but above all read the book, you won't be dissapointed.
